Viewable Date: 2011-05-16 Pub. Date: 2011-05-15
Image Number: 61054
Caption: Nuclear Energy. Friend or foe? We rely upon the nuclear regulatory commission to protect us from disasters like the one in Japan. Unfortunately, regulators often land lucrative jobs with the very industry they police … making the situation quite cozy. Should regulators and safety measures fail the last line of defense at most plants is the containment structure. Chernobyl didn't even have a containment structure. Oopski. The Fukushima Daichi plant in Japan had them. But the older, inferior design didn't fare so well ... there are 23 similar reactors in the US. In addition to natural disasters and terrorism, the omni-present risk is simple human error. And we haven't begun to deal with the nuclear waste. The Obama administration canceled the Yucca Mountain Waste Project without creating a replacement plan. Maybe our self-imposed containment structure will protect us. Denial.

Image Number: 58863
Caption: What do you mean, what tsunami? The one in Japan! Don't you ever watch the news? No I don't watch the news. The news gonna tell me: politicians corrupt? Nature kill people? People kill people? Celebrities act like fools? Only the names and places change, but the story always the same: we fragile animals here for just a minute before we gone; and while we here, we sometimes wreak havoc, but sometimes we help each other. Only you can make ignorance sound wise. Thanks, dawg. But lots of people can do that.
