Cartoonist(s): Jim Toomey
Comic/Cartoon: Sherman's Lagoon
Viewable Date: 2012-04-05 Pub. Date: 2012-04-05
Image Number: 78001
Caption: I hear there's a lagoon creative writing contest. Yessiree! A short story contest to boot. This is where I shine! Hey, maybe I'll try my hand at writing one as well. It'll be futile. Thanks! I hope yours is futile, too! You know, a lit of writers start with a dictionary.

Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Candorville
Viewable Date: 2012-02-12 Pub. Date: 2012-02-12
Image Number: 75766
Caption: Dear idiot … I read your latest blog post about how Obama's critics are "goofy" for acting as if Obama invented the concept of progressive taxation. You went on to cite all the progressive tax rates of the last 150 years … … and "pointed out" that the rates Obama wants are actually far less than what we had decades ago. It's awfully "goofy" of YOU to pretend something isn't radical and new just because it's been around forever. THE WHOLE COUNTRY NEEDS TO BE SLAPPED WITH A DICTIONARY. His plan to stick to progressive taxation is RADICAL and NEW, just like it as been ever since 1862.

Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Candorville
Viewable Date: 2011-11-27 Pub. Date: 2011-11-27
Image Number: 72871
Caption: "Stupid arguments" are the most important. But a parking spot? Yes. She yelled at me for two hours! She felt belittled. If a parking spot is within ten feet of a hydrant, it's not a spot. It's a ticket-trap! She doesn’t understand these things. I parked right across the street, where I was more comfortable. What's wrong with that?! When you told her "that's not a spot." she heard "You're a woman, you don't know what you're talking about." Well tell her to use the English-to-English dictionary, not the English-to-history-of-gender-inequality dictionary.

Cartoonist(s): Darrin Bell
Comic/Cartoon: Candorville
Viewable Date: 2011-09-23 Pub. Date: 2011-09-23
Image Number: 65729
Caption: So Sasha Mitchell's your best friend, now? I can tell her things I can't tell anyone. Nobody's ever made me feel like that before. Lemont, a "best friend" is someone who's there for you in real life, not on Facebook. Someone who loves you in person, despite all your dorkiness, self-sabotaging, obliviousness, poor financial management and endless nitpicking. Generally speaking, I mean. That's not what dictionary-dot-com says.

Caption: You're supposed to limit computer use at an office to official business. All I did was use an online dictionary … Hmmm … I'm not going to like this, am I? Okay, maybe I went to dictionary.com and looked up one little inappropriate word. Wow! They fired you for that? Um ... Did I mention I turned up the speakers and hit "audio pronunciation"?

Caption: Let's say you DID give a brutha $2 to get you some Doritos … Let's say instead of acquiring said Doritos, this dexterous young man adroitly utilized it to procure a propitious thesaurus app for his iPhone. And let's say this gentlemen intents to employ commodious colloquy to obfuscate and confound while absconding with other people's currency. Hypodermically speaking, of course.

Crystal's a classy girl, Knute. You need to indulge her. Treat her with deference. Be genteel and chivalrous. Can you do that? Maybe. Lemme just check the dictionary ...
