Comic/Cartoon: Baby Blues
Viewable Date: 2011-12-11 Pub. Date: 2011-12-11
Image Number: 73390
Caption: Fifty bucks?? Sigh. It's so perfect! Here comes the guy … Ask him if we can get a discount. A discount? Well, let's see … This is a perfectly shaped Noble Fir, which I planted, watered and fertilized for the past eight years. Then I carefully harvested, wrapped and trucked it down here to this small lot I rent ... ... Where I work twelve hours a day, seven days a week, and sleep in a cramped travel trailer, alone for most of the month of December, in order to earn a living for my family back home. What did we get? Five bucks off and a guilty conscience.

Caption: Isn't $10 a glass a little steep? Edison's Lemonade Palace. The best in town. Only $10 per glass. Limited time offer. You may not realize it, Mrs. Krump, but I have quite a bit of overhead. The price of lemons has skyrocketed, and Brazilian sugar production is down. PLUS, there are my cost-of-living wage increases, which I won't go into. Sorry ... I'm afraid I don't have $10. Well then, step next door and let's discuss it. Edison's Loan Service. Simply fill out this application and I'll set you up with a line of credit. Oh, no ... no ... What if I couldn't pay you back? Not a problem. Here, let me show you. Edison's Loan Service. If you purchase multiple glasses of lemonade on credit and then find yourself in over your head - Low Cost Credit Counseling. Edison, the neighbors are starting to complain. Boy!! A guy tries to offer folks a little relief and this is the thanks I get?!

Image Number: 64818
Caption: The Candorville Chronicle. Do you know why the cost of living is rising so fast, Brown? It's because people have grown cynical. People feel the American empire is dying, so everyone's trying to grab their piece of the pie before it'a all gone. We must break this vicious cycle, Brown ... before it's too late. Sir, none of this explains why you won't give me a raise. Fight the cynicism, Brown. Fight it!

Caption: Spluble Glupth. Thanks, Biff, for that weather update. Scattered showers with a 20% chance of global warming over the weekend. In alley news, some stupid boys were seen poking around in people's trash. They found an old bird cage and pretended it was full of tiny dinosaurs. Although most dinosaurs actually were small, it is an established fact that they never went into bird cages. What causes such intensive stupidity? Is it evidence of a spiraling national decline, as some have suggested? The answer is no. According to our data, shown on this graph, the stupidity index is independent of other factors. Stupidity level of boys. National debt. Cost of living. Cold war. I'm Trish Tringle and that's the news. Coming up, Biff with sports. I Witness News. Mlmbl.

Because of the rising cost of living, widespread unemployment and the loss of high-paying blue collar jobs Americans are spending all their after-tax income and even going into debt, just to get by. In short, the average American is unable to set aside any money. In unrelated news, the President's health care plan is to have people set aside money each month to pay for their health care.
