Cartoonist(s): Nick Anderson
Comic/Cartoon: Nick Anderson's Editorial Cartoons
Viewable Date: 2011-07-10 Pub. Date: 2011-07-10
Image Number: 63059
Caption: Beneath the surface. What's going on with deep-water drilling? More than a year after the Macondo Will disaster, deep-water drilling permits are just beginning to trickle in. And the Obama administration can't seem to win. Why can't you stop the flow? BP Oil Spill. Why'd you stop the flow? Drilling permits. They're being blamed for high prices at the pump. The is is the same administration that proposed an expansion of offshore drilling just weeks before Macondo. Maybe part of the problem is we use 20% of the world's energy resources while having only 5% of the world's population. Gas! Gas! Gas! Gas! And whose fault is it really? The government charged with regulating industry and protecting the environment? Or the industry which assured us this couldn't happen? Meanwhile the players involved in Macondo are busy pointing fingers. Reminding us of our most plentiful natural resource.
