Caption: You're closing the Haggis Garden Restaurant, Nessie? Aye. 'Tis a sad day indeed. Closed. Maybe this lagoon wasn't ready for authentic Scottish fare. Closed. There's only been one traditional ethnic restaurant that's ever made it here ... And what might that be? Taco Bell.

Cartoonist(s): Nick Anderson
Comic/Cartoon: Nick Anderson's Editorial Cartoons
Viewable Date: 2011-05-16 Pub. Date: 2011-05-15
Image Number: 61054
Caption: Nuclear Energy. Friend or foe? We rely upon the nuclear regulatory commission to protect us from disasters like the one in Japan. Unfortunately, regulators often land lucrative jobs with the very industry they police … making the situation quite cozy. Should regulators and safety measures fail the last line of defense at most plants is the containment structure. Chernobyl didn't even have a containment structure. Oopski. The Fukushima Daichi plant in Japan had them. But the older, inferior design didn't fare so well ... there are 23 similar reactors in the US. In addition to natural disasters and terrorism, the omni-present risk is simple human error. And we haven't begun to deal with the nuclear waste. The Obama administration canceled the Yucca Mountain Waste Project without creating a replacement plan. Maybe our self-imposed containment structure will protect us. Denial.
